The exhibition, open to the public, showcases the works of students from the master’s programme in Visual and Innovation Design, developed as part of Tracks of Freedom 2024, an international research and design experience organized and promoted annually by RUFA to enable young designers to engage with professionals and leading industry players. Each year, students travel to the Big Apple, New York, where they have the opportunity to meet some of the most influential design studios and professionals on the international scene, immersing themselves in a context of excellence and inspiration. The exhibited works explore the theme of Freedom, interpreted through a synesthetic perspective and a multidisciplinary approach.
This immersive experience took place in the heart of vibrant New York, a symbol of freedom and a unique cultural crossroads. A 9-day journey of research, study, and design, during which participants engaged in talks, studio visits, and socio-cultural insights, all within a stimulating and inspiring professional environment.
The exhibition project stems from this experience, transforming research work into a visual narrative that captures the dynamism and symbolic strength of New York.
Brand identity, motion graphics, interaction design, photography, and video become tools to explore and represent the concept of freedom through hybridizations, convergences, and experimentation. The experience, which took place in May 2024, was guided by professors and designers **Mario Rullo and Emanuele Cappelli**, along with the Academic Director, Arch. Fabio Mongelli.
Among the studios visited were Pentagram, led by partner Giorgia Lupi, with a special meeting with Paula Scher, one of the most influential graphic designers in the world; Lubalin Foundation, Order Studio, Salotto Studio, where students explored case studies with Giulia Zoavo, Vittorio Perotti, Lorenzo Fanton, and illustrator Emiliano Ponzi; as well as The Working Assembly, Studio Gretel, and meetings with Italian designers who have been active in New York for years, such as Matteo Bologna and Daniele Politini.
