The exhibition presented by Janneke Leenders and Nathalia Koux, students from the Fine Arts programme at RUFA, invites people on a journey to explore the essence of life. Curated by MI AE LEE and Amrutha Pradeep.
7 – 11 October 2024 – RUFA Space, Via degli Ausoni, 7, Rome – Free entrance.
In ancient times, Tau was regarded as a symbol of life or rebirth. Janneke Leenders and Nathalia Koux have explored the uncanny realms of life through a diverse range of artistic expressions and experiments. They invite viewers to reflect on the essence of life, found in death, memory, and nature. The artists also inspire the audience to engage with and recognize the boundary between familiarity and unfamiliarity, encouraging viewers to question where this sense originates and to discover the personal meaning hidden within.
Janneke infuses visual elements, such as abstract paintings and sculptures, with light and sound, guiding the audience to immerse themselves in a wide array of sensory experiences. She deconstructs the essence and meaning contained within, illustrating how these uncanny forms, through personal experience, memory, and perception, are once again recognized as familiar, regain vitality, and transform into significant entities grounded in phenomenological theory.
Nathalia investigates essential meanings through corporeality and organic visuals. Her multimedia approach, including installations and performances, encourages interaction and introspection. Through metaphors, dichotomies, and paradoxes, she creates an intimate space to question the complexities of human experience, exploring identity, vulnerability, and the contradictions inherent in life. She primarily integrates repurposed, recycled, or organic materials from nature into her works, giving these elements new signification.
