On Wednesday 8 May 2024, the RUFA Academy held the Talk: Toxic Love – how to identify red flags in a toxic relationship.
An important and sensitive topic, which was discussed and explored by special guests: the psychologist psychotherapist Camilla Stellato, criminologist Edoardo Genovese, psychologist-psychotherapist René Angeramo.
The Talk was therefore an opportunity to explore this topic in depth with professionals specialised on the subject, and to offer the audience practical insights into how to immediately identify the so-called red flags: harmful and ambiguous attitudes on the part of people close to us, such as excessive jealousy, control, emotional manipulation, gaslighting, and gradual isolation from the social and family circle.
The Talk, as a valuable moment of learning and comparison for all participants, is an initiative in line with the Contest launched by RUFA last March: “Toxic Love – Esprimi L’invisibile”. The call encouraged Italian high school students to get involved, ‘telling’ through an artistic medium of their choice (sculpture, painting, graphic work, multimedia, etc.) the importance of mental well-being, and of being able to identify the presence of toxic behaviour within a relationship. The prize is a scholarship worth €4,000 valid for the first year of any three-year RUFA course.
At the end of the event, the winning work was announced: ‘1 in 3’ by the young artist Emily Castlunger, who convinced the jury with an emotional video project, presenting the terrible statistic that one in three women have suffered some form of violence in their lives, through animation and the collage technique: a simple, emotional and moving style, convincing the internal jury unanimously.
