“Butterfly”: a RUFA performance at MAXXI for World Epilepsy Day

RUFA is proud to announce the performance “Butterfly” by Sofia Basañes Vázquez and Lilia Papa, RUFA master’s students in Fine Arts. The event will take place at the prestigious MAXXI – National Museum of 21st Century Arts, on the occasion of World Epilepsy Day 2025.

Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at MAXXI – Via Guido Reni, 4A.

“Butterfly” is part of an awareness project developed in collaboration with LICE – Italian League Against Epilepsy and You&Web Agency, with the aim of promoting knowledge about epilepsy and breaking down prejudices. The initiative seeks to educate the public about this neurological condition, spreading awareness and providing tools to recognize and respond to an epileptic seizure.

The Performance: Butterfly

Butterfly is a durational performance that explores physical tension and human resilience—key elements in conditions such as epilepsy. The piece unfolds through the interaction of two arts: one artist moves continuously in a dance, embodying inner struggle and transformation, while the other plays the guitar live, creating an ever-evolving soundscape that represents willpower and endurance.
Together, these two components create a dialogue that expresses fragility, adaptation, and creative strength over time.

Fashion and Visual Arts: A Creative Synergy

The performance represents a fusion of disciplines: the artists will wear garments designed by RUFA students from the Sustainable Fashion Design programme. This aspect enriches the visual and conceptual depth of the piece, turning the costumes into symbols of resilience and innovation, designed by the talented RUFA designers Francesco Caruccio, Aiza Baiyshbekova, Erika Tripoli, Margherita Beritognolo, and Mattia Siciliano.
The project was made possible thanks to the collaboration of Marta Jovanovic, Coordinator of the Visual Arts Department, and Guenda Cermel, Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Programme in Sustainable Fashion Design.

Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience a powerful performance and contribute to raising awareness on an important issue. We look forward to seeing you at MAXXI.
