The new RUFA Talk session begins. The first event was Wednesday, Nov. 30, with visual artist Flaminia Celata: “Creating through transformation.”
As in previous editions, the meeting was held in the Aula Magna (Taro Street, 14) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The first Talk of the new academic year featured Flaminia Celata, a Rome-based visual artist. Since 2009 she has been working primarily with photography and video with an increasing need in recent years to cross over into other forms of artistic expression, such as sculpture and video performance.

During the Talk Celata, through viewing her own work, revealed the methodology that leads her to the realization of her projects.
For her, the creative act is the result of a long process of research and effort. It is not something immediate; it springs from a curiosity, which with the passage of time becomes obsessive; curiosity about an event or subject she generally experiences.
It is the perception of what is transforming that drives her to undertake a scientific investigation, which from being a guide and a tool for knowledge, leads her to achieve the right emotional detachment and the need to produce images.
Coming from a documentary photography background, she generally works on a project basis. A single work can hardly condense all the meanings of the subject she is dealing with.
The creative process involves getting closer to the subject. The search for details with photography, texture, is the process that allows her to get inside the subject.
With digital, which is her working tool, she sometimes acts by subtraction. What remains becomes something else and takes on a new meaning.
The modulation of the work, also passes through the choice and articulation of the size of the images; sometimes the micro element, magnified, becomes the representation of a mystery that does not allow itself to be revealed.
In particular, the artist will present two works with a multimedia approach:
– “IO sono memoria”, where the self-portrait used in the work springs from a closeness to the theme itself. Through the nullification of individuality, it becomes rational and almost scientific research, which allows implementing the distance necessary for a visual investigation, which does not always produce certainties or solutions. Video, used in this project, is the means of penetrating the invisible, inquiring the process, witnessing the signs of an unseen action, which has no form but is present. The video performance promotes immersion on the essence of the theme.
– “APUA”, the result of a collaboration with German artist Bärbel Praun. An investigation of inactive marble quarries in the Apuan Alps.. A project that goes beyond the documentation of what remains after the extraction of marble. A project where in addition to photography and video, sound, video performance, and installation also find their place.
