Wang Yuxiang, a RUFA student in the School of Visual Arts, opens his solo exhibition at PRAC – Center for Contemporary Art – on May 8 at 10 a.m.
PRAC Center for Contemporary Art inaugurates the new exhibition season with three solo shows curated by Graziano Menolascina: David Salle, a leading artist of the new American painting, the Italian artist Enzo Cucchi and the young Chinese artist Wang Yuxiang, RUFA student of Painting.
Wang Yuxiang’s exhibition includes two interventions within the village of Ponzano Romano. The first is a tribute to Saint Sebastian, located inside the two external niches of the side facade of the Church of Santa Maria ad Nives. The second is a door opening directly onto the beautiful Terrazza del Fiasco creating a close link with the water of the Tiber River flowing below and the landscape.
Wang Yuxiang’s work focuses on the specific research of materials such as wood, iron, ceramics, combined with painting, creating an extraordinary effect of total fusion of two cultures; the Eastern one of origin and the Western one learned during his stay in Italy.
A conceptual research conceived from time to time that integrates perfectly with the pre-established locations where he works.
Born in Anhui, China, in 1997, he lives and works in Rome, Italy. Assistant on multiple occasions of Italian artists, such as Andrea Aquilanti. In 2018 the inclusion of the work “Scatola dei Ricordi” in the permanent collection with the project “Made in Italy” at the Italian Embassy in Mexico City, Mexico. In 2019 he participates in the artist residency program “Via del Sale” in Koper (Slovenia) and in the same year he takes part in Lumen, installing a permanent work in Albinia, Orbetello. In 2020 he won the award of the popular Chinese magazine Kuart Magazine “The Future is Coming” Nomination Academic Award, Most Popular Artist Award. In 2021 he participated in the project “Piazze Romane” with the sculpture “DOOR STOP” exhibited in Piazza Poli promoted by the Municipio Roma I Centro. In February 2022 he won the first edition of the Biennale di Todi, with the installation “Pensa di uscire” placed in the space in front of the Temple of Santa Maria della Consolazione in Todi.
The exhibit will be on view from May 8 through September 4.
