SOUND STUDIES FORUM. International Year of Sound 2021 is an experience that seeks to highlight, following the launch stages that took place at the University of Urbino in recent weeks, the transdisciplinary nature of a working group capable of expressing its skills and aptitudes through the multiple interrelations of sound with the languages of the present.
An event that is not only intended to be a moment of encounter and confrontation between experts and students in training, but also to represent a sort of watershed in an area, that of artistic research, still to be explored.
The talk will be held online Wednesday 15 December, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Aula Magna, at the RUFA headquarters in Via Taro 14 in Rome. Taking part, in addition to Caterina Tomeo, Leandro Pisano (Festival Liminaria), Carola Haupt (Radio Papesse), Alessandra Calanchi (online from Urbino), Lucia Farinati (online from London), Francis Sosta (online from Berlin).
The talk is dedicated to all the students of the Academy, but particularly recommended for those following the Graphic design, Design, Cinema, Visual arts and Multimedia arts and design programmes.
A project that sees RUFA lecturer Caterina Tomeo at the forefront, in the dual role of art critic and coordinator of the Multimedia arts and design course. The starting point for this project is the “Sound Studies Forum”, founded on the occasion of the International Year of Sound 20/21.
In recent years, the so-called “sound studies” have gained more and more interest in academic research, becoming an innovative field of study, in an inter-and-multi-disciplinary sense. The development and creation of research departments, books, journals, seminars, conferences, testifies to the attention progressively catalysed by sound studies on an international scale.
This is a very broad territory, encompassing studies in sound policy, cultural and technological criticism, sound art and associated practices, urban phonography and acoustic ecology, studies on the soundscape also in the fields of literature and cinema, sound epistemologies, new musicology and related historiographical reflections.
Sound Studies Forum
The creation of the “Sound Studies Forum”, promoted by a working group led by Caterina Tomeo, Alessandra Calanchi and Leandro Pisano, in collaboration with RUFA and the University of Urbino, represents an attempt to create a first interdisciplinary study group in Italy, It is an attempt to create the first interdisciplinary study group in Italy, drawing on the contribution of scholars from different fields of research, in an attempt to connect departments, cultural associations, researchers, students and practitioners with different backgrounds and interests, using sound as a research method and the soundscape as an arena of study and cultural resistance.
Specifically, the “Sound Studies Forum” focuses its attention on a series of scientific, social, ecological, pedagogical, political and artistic themes and investigations concerning primarily the contemporary world, without ignoring the legacy of the past and the agency of memory (individual and collective).
