The Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Paris and the Italian Comics Festival Network, is launching the first edition of the “Italian Emerging Comics Talent Award”: a public notice for a residency programme abroad for young Italian scriptwriters, illustrators and colourists.
The contest
The “Italian Emerging Comics Talent Award” aims to strengthen actions in support of comics with the aim of creating new opportunities for artists on a national and international level and to encourage systemic strategies that network the entities operating in the sector in Italy.
This action is also intended to support the promotion of emerging talent on a national and international level for the development of contemporary comics, implementing new cultural exchanges and international educational twinning on comics issues.
The Award is divided into three artistic categories of evaluation: Script, Drawing, Colouring. A winner will be selected for each of these categories.
Prizes
The winners (aged between 18 and 35) will be offered a Scholarship of 7,000 euros to attend a Higher Education School in Paris in the field of Cartoon Crafts (scriptwriting, drawing, colouring) for a period of four months (from February to May 2022), in order to develop their creative skills in contact with the French artistic and cultural environment.
The winners will also be able to participate in cultural activities organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Paris, including the presentation of their work at the end of the residency, and may be present at the Angoulême Festival (27-30 January 2022).
Conditions for participation
The project intends to broaden the skills of future comic book artists, through an international experience, in order to interface with the different dynamics of cultural dissemination in the sector through events, exhibitions and festivals of relevant cultural interest.
The application deadline is 12 noon on 10 September.
