In 1990 Roberto Memmo, who has always been interested in art in every form of expression, decided to set up a private Foundation and take on the role of its president. His passion for beauty led him to want to share, with a vast public, the creativity of the great masters through the contemplation of works fundamental to the history of art. Few museums were active then, but the historical moment was favourable to the birth of new public and private spaces in various Italian cities. Many were the exhibitions promoted by the Foundation, thanks also to the participation of some of the most important museums in the world: the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the British Miseum in London, the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. An itinerary made even more prestigious by the presence of important curators such as Morris Bierbrier, Christopher White, Catherine Whistler, Sir Denis Mahon, Felipe Garin Llombart.
Today this wealth is also available to the new generations of artists who are trained in Academies and Institutes. Fondazione Memmo, in fact, has launched the second edition of the call, addressed to Italian artists, for a residency grant at Gasworks, London, from 11 January to 29 March 2021. The residency is intended to offer a great opportunity for those who want to face a research experience outside their own context, facing an international scenario. The residency at Gasworks, curated by Ilaria Puri Purini, represents an opportunity for professional growth, a chance to experiment and encourage artists to undertake new research, thus expanding the network of contacts.
