From January 27 to 31, 2025, RUFA will host an exclusive masterclass for students of the Computer Animation and Visual Effects course, led by Bibiana Petrera, an internationally renowned director and illustrator.
Bibiana Petrera began her career in Italy as a story artist, character designer, illustrator, and layout artist. She worked for several years in Australia at Disney Animation Studio as a layout artist and later at Yoram Gross Animation Studio in Sydney. She was the character design supervisor for the series “Fairy Tales Police Department.” As a story artist, she created storyboards for productions such as “Winx Club” by Rainbow, “Horseland,” “Tara Duncan,” and “Dino Squad” for Studio 352, and “Mofy” for the Italian Misseri Studio. Among the feature films she contributed to as a story artist are “La freccia azzurra” and “Pinocchio il film” by Enzo D’Alò, “Rideo” (BBC and Angel Film), and “Monta and the Moon” (Vintata Animation, Vietnam). She also served as director and supervisor for the award-winning series “Clay Economy” at UFFA SRL. In 2023, she won the prestigious Pulcinella Award.
An immersive week of masterclass with Computer Animation students
The theme of the masterclass will be storyboarding, the first tool that transforms written words into images, offering an exclusive preview of what will later appear on screen. Considered the visual alphabet of cinema, storyboarding will guide students in the art of storytelling, helping them shape the stories they have imagined. Bibiana’s role will be to guide students through selection, discussion, and dialogue, so they can best express their personal vision of the film, of which they are the true directors, through framing choices.
This masterclass represents a unique opportunity for students to learn from a leading professional in the field of animation and visual effects, enriching their academic journey with practical and in-depth skills.
