American painter David Bowes meets RUFA students

On Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 10:30 AM, in Room A13 (4th floor) at Pastificio Cerere, RUFA students will have the opportunity to meet the international artist David Bowes, a world-renowned American painter, and the curator and art critic Graziano Menolascina.

The event is part of the Painting Master’s Degree class led by Prof. Andrea Aquilanti, but it is open to all students of the Visual Arts Department and the entire RUFA community. The presentation will be conducted in English and offers young creatives a significant opportunity for cultural and artistic exchange.
David Bowes, a U.S. painter born in Boston in 1957, is known for his visionary style that blends elements of Baroque, New Romanticism, Surrealism, and pseudo-graffiti. His paintings often depict serene idylls, inspired by Tiepolo and Pompeian grotesques, offering visions that merge theatricality and symbolism. Bowes is a great admirer of Italy, where he has exhibited in prestigious contexts such as the Venice Biennale and the “Terrae Motus” exhibition curated by Lucio Amelio. Today, he lives and works between Newton and Turin.

During the event, Bowes will review students’ works and lead a constructive discussion to delve into the dynamics and challenges of entering the professional art world.

Graziano Menolascina, artistic director of PRAC – Contemporary Art Center of Ponzano Romano, is a renowned curator, art critic, and academic. With a career marked by collaborations with international artists and significant publications, Menolascina has conceived this event in collaboration with Prof. Andrea Aquilanti to provide students with a valuable opportunity for dialogue and exchange with Bowes.

Presentation of the exhibition “Return to Rome”

The event will also feature the participation of Director Rosa Basile of Basile Contemporary Gallery, who will present the solo exhibition by David Bowes titled “Return to Rome”. This exhibition celebrates the artist’s deep connection with Italy and its influence on his pictorial poetics.

The event is a rare opportunity for all RUFA students and art enthusiasts to explore the world of contemporary art through the eyes of a visionary artist and an experienced curator. We look forward to sharing this extraordinary experience with you.
