RUFA, Imago Communication, and Meishi Film Academy Join Forces to Promote Chinese Cinema in Italy

RUFA, Imago Communication, and Meishi Film Academy Join Forces to Promote Chinese Cinema in Italy with the Release of “PING PONG: The Return”.

On Wednesday, November 13, at 10:00 AM, at the Milan RUFA campus, students from the two film universities will engage in an intercultural exchange focused on the film “Ping Pong: The Return”, which is set to release in Italian cinemas on November 14.

RUFA and the Meishi Film Academy of Chongqing University have initiated a project to exchange and share their respective cultural resources and educational methodologies, with the aim of training international talents who can act as cultural ambassadors between Italy and China and pioneers of innovation.

As part of this project, a discussion on the Chinese film “PING PONG: The Return”, directed by Deng Chao and Yu Baimei, and distributed in Italian cinemas by Imago Communication, will be held starting November 14, 2024. Imago’s goal is to encourage new opportunities for intercultural dialogue between Italy and China, developing projects in the fields of art and communication.

On Wednesday, November 13, at 10:00 AM, students from both institutions will gather, both in-person and online, to participate in an educational activity. Through scene analysis and film sequence discussion, students will gain insights into the production process supported by a storyboard, particularly for sports and innovative scripts such as that of “PING PONG: The Return.”

Set between 1992 and 1995, the film tells the story of Dai Minjia, a ping pong coach, inspired by Cai Zhenhua, who returns to China after being abroad, determined to rebuild the national team and lead it to success. Under his guidance, five players (Ding Song, Ma Wenge, Wang Tao, Liu Guoliang, and Kong Linghui) will compete in the World Championships in Tianjin, launching an intense and exhilarating counteroffensive.

“The activities related to the film PING PONG: The Return,” says RUFA Director Fabio Mongelli, “are part of a larger project developed in collaboration with the Meishi Film Academy of Chongqing University. Workshops, events, screenings, and discussions introduce students to a multicultural and collaborative environment, enabling them to grow both professionally and personally, building technical skills on one hand, while strengthening relational and communication skills on the other, all within an international context.”
