RUFA is a partner of the independent magazine festival.
Students and lecturers on RUFA courses of Graphic Design and Visual and Innovation Design will participate in Mag to Mag, the event entirely dedicated to the world of niche magazines, scheduled to take place in Milan on 14 and 15 September 2024, with over 15 events including talks, workshops and masterclasses.
The initiative will be held at Spazio Lampo at Scalo Farini, not far from RUFA’s Milan headquarters.
Mag to Mag, the event entirely dedicated to independent magazines comes to Milan for the first time, 14 and 15 September 2024. After a first edition hosted in May last year in Bologna, the international festival – conceived by Anna Frabotta and Dario Gaspari, founders of the online and physical shop Frab’s Magazines – will invade the large multifunctional area Spazio Lampo at Scalo Farini.
The second edition of Mag To Mag will be a unique moment of information, meetings and exchange for fans, publishers and operators in the sector, where it will be possible to touch upon Italy’s largest live market of independent magazines, learn about the trends in this niche market, network and take part in more than 15 events including talks, workshops and masterclasses. Among the topics that will be addressed, the importance of print media will be discussed, new tools and best practices will be shared, and energies, ideas and turbulence gravitating around the sector will be gathered.

RUFA, belonging to the Group Plena Education will be the main partner of the event, which will involve teachers and students from the three-year Graphic Design course and the two-year Visual and Innovation Design course in a range of projects and activities, coordinated respectively by teachers Guido Lombardo and Emanuele Cappelli.
In particular, RUFA students will be treated to a masterclass held by Jeremy Leslie, a member of AGI and founder of MagCulture in London, the most important magazine store in Europe, and a workshop curated by Natassa Pappa, creator of the Desired Landscapes project and lecturer at the University of Athens, in collaboration with lecturers Elisa Abbadessa and Francesco Paolo Incantalupo, aimed at the production of an instant zine, printed in risograph, which will be given as a gift to participants.
In addition, Visual and Innovation Design students will present MagJam, the Mag to Mag Journal, a publication aimed at professionals and fans of indie magazines. The editorial project is coordinated by Professor Stefano Cipolla, art director of L’Espresso, and produced by the students of the three-year and two-year courses, under the supervision of Professors Emanuele Cappelli, Lorenzo Lervolino for the texts, Stefano Compagnucci for the photographs, Francesco Fidani for the illustrations and Emanuele Frascà for the website.
The students of the three-year Graphic Design course will take part in the setting up of a RUFA corner to display a selection of editorial projects developed during the academic year and produce the catalogue, supervised by lecturers Davide Luccini and Fabrizio Crollari and former students Gaia Formigari, Matilde Francia and Loris Cometa.
