RUFA and Romaeuropa Festival join forces with an exhibition project curated by the students of Multimedia Arts and Design: Francesca Battaglia, Paola Belviso, Andrea Cecconi, Sara Fabretti, Rosalia Giuliano, Lucrezia Mariotti, Olimpia Zamò, Federica Bentivoglio, Martino Cassanelli, Agostino Domanico, Daniele Imani, Simona Lauro, Karina Sanchez, Ada Uygan, Martina Carbone.
6-8 October 2023, La Pelanda – Piazza Orazio Giustiniani, 4.
As part of the renowned Romaeuropa Festival 2023, RUFA students from the Master of Multimedia Arts and Design course will present three immersive virtual environments – on the theme of technomagic, freely inspired by the book “Tecnomagia” (Mimesis edizioni, 2023) by Vincesco Susca.
The artists tried their hand at creating artistic proposals with a performative character but rooted in virtual environments and centred on the theme of technomagic.
RESURGO – by Francesca Battaglia, Paola Belviso, Andrea Cecconi, Sara Fabretti, Rosalia Giuliano, Lucrezia Mariotti, Olimpia Zamò.
Resurgence is a technological purification ritual aimed at raising awareness of how technology is affecting our perception of the world and ourselves. The audience enters an environment with a shamanic spirit, where the visor is raised to a totem necessary to perform the purification. The wearer of the visor is guided by a voice that will accompany him throughout the ritual, suggesting actions to be taken such as closing one’s eyes or extending one’s perception by shaking the hand of the user at his side.
DAATH – by Federica Bentivoglio, Martino Cassanelli, Agostino Domanico, Daniele Imani, Simona Lauro, Karina Sanchez, Ada Uygan.
Daath introduces users to an immersive world. During the journey, users will explore the Sephiroth of the Tree of Life, the model of creation. The experience is played out in two roles: that of the magician, the one who attracts from the outside, and that of the traveller, who in virtual reality has to choose between sight and hearing. Within a surreal world, six stone pillars hold the spiritual secrets of the Sephiroth, which, brought to light by the magician, attract the traveller. At the same time, the sounds, composed of polyrhythms and harmonies that respond to the position and choices made by the magician, attempt to draw the user away and away from the visual source.
EX – POSURE, no actions – by Martina Carbone.
Ex-posure immerses the observer in a future landscape submerged by water and in which there is no animal or plant form, but creatures representing an evolutionary phase of the technologies produced and nurtured by humans in our present. A new species that has managed to transform everything artificial into organic bodies. To access this dimension, the observer physically enters an exhibition case, from which he is observed by the new inhabitants as if he were in a hypothetical museum of the future, in which the human being is archive material on display, a condition that does not allow him to act and inter-act. His every movement becomes material of interest to the creatures observing him, within a sound environment in which they analyse and study the forms and functions of their ancestors.
