Amos Gitai, among the greatest living filmmakers, with each of his works relentlessly questions the political relationship between form and content, each time proposing a lesson (to the viewer) about modernity, space and time amalgamating in a filmic work. In a world that sees the coordinates of the transmission of knowledge dissolving, Gitai represents the beacon of a modernity that has found its most dynamically palpitating matter in cinema, which students dramatically need (needing the maturation of a personal point of view that can be a compass in the smashed universe of information that surrounds us).
About Amos Gitai
Gitai’s work was presented in several major retrospectives in Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and in New York, and the British Film Institute in London. Untill now, Amos Gitai has created over 90 works of art, including a wide variety of formats such as feature and short films, fiction and documentaries, experimental work, television productions, installations and theater works. Between 1999 and 2017 ten of his films participated in the Cannes Film Festival as well as Mostra internazionale d'arte cinematografica of Venice.
He has worked with Juliette Binoche, Jeanne Moreau, Natalie Portman, Samuel Fuller, Hanna Shygulla, Léa Sydoux, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Annie Lennox and many others.
He received several prestigious prizes, in particular the Leopard of Honor at the Locarno International Film Festival (2008), the Roberto Rossellini prize (2005), the Robert Bresson prize (2013), the Paradjanov prize (2014) and Légion d’Honneur (2017). In 2018, he has been elected professor at the chair of artistic creation at
the Collége de France, with a series of 12 lessons on cinema. In 2019 he received the Grande Ufficiale dell’Ordine della Stella Italia.
