RUFA and Particle: Cultural Innovation in Roman Museums

Return to Particle Lab: the cultural innovation lab that involves Roman museums, promoted by Particle and RUFA.

RUFA students from the Master’s programmes in Art Curating and Management and Design Management took part in an innovative workshop promoted by Particle, an app dedicated to cultural engagement, in collaboration with the Pastificio Cerere Foundation of Rome. The project led to the creation of digital thematic routes, available on Particle, that guide users in discovering the history of Pastificio Cerere, from its transformation into an artistic hub up to the present day. The narrative is organized into three main temporal areas:

The Beginnings (1970-1990): the period during which Pastificio Cerere began evolving from a former industrial building into a focal point of the art scene, welcoming the first creatives.
The Intermediate Phase (1990-2004): crucial years during which Pastificio Cerere became a benchmark for Roman contemporary art, hosting artists’ studios and spontaneous exhibitions.
The Birth of the Foundation (2004-2024): the moment when the Pastificio Cerere Foundation was established, aiming to promote contemporary art through exhibitions, residencies, and cultural projects.

The Developed Thematic Routes

The students created several multimedia itineraries to explore the history and identity of Pastificio Cerere: History of the San Lorenzo District, an interactive map that narrates the evolution and cultural context of the neighborhood hosting Pastificio Cerere; Evolution of the Creative Scene in the ’70s and ’80s, an audio guide that delves into the birth of San Lorenzo’s artistic community; The Golden Years of Pastificio Cerere (1990-2004), a route that reveals the key figures and artistic dynamics of this period of great ferment; Key Exhibitions of the Pastificio Cerere Foundation, an itinerary dedicated to the most significant exhibitions organized by the Foundation over the past twenty years.

Completing the experience are profiles dedicated to the artists and key figures of Pastificio Cerere, insights into both permanent and temporary works, as well as video interviews with artists and curators. This project confirms the commitment of Particle and RUFA in exploring new ways to experience and interact with cultural heritage, a journey that began in 2024 with Rome’s MACRO. The content will be available on Particle, allowing you to explore the history of Pastificio Cerere at any time.

The project was coordinated by Francesca Gollo, head of the RUFA Department of Design and Applied Arts, by curator Ilaria Gianni, and by Benedetta Cecchini, Director of Operations and Business Development at Particle.
