Lorenzo Bolzoni from BAO Publishing meets RUFA students

RUFA meets BAO Publishing: an opportunity to discover the behind-the-scenes of creating a graphic novel.

Students of the Graphic Design and Graphic Design-Comics and Illustration courses at RUFA’s Milan campus will have the chance to engage directly with Lorenzo Bolzoni, senior designer at one of Italy’s most renowned graphic novel publishers: BAO Publishing.

Monday, December 16, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, in the Aula Magna of RUFA’s Milan campus, Bolzoni will lead a conference exploring the many facets of editorial work in the comic book industry. Joining him will be RUFA professor and visual communication designer Enrico Parisio.

A journey through art, words, and industry

Comics are not only an art form that intertwines images and storytelling, but also a complex editorial product born from the collaboration of diverse professionals. Lorenzo Bolzoni – who has overseen the creation of over 800 titles during BAO Publishing’s 15 years of activity – will unveil the stages and challenges of designing and producing a graphic novel, from the initial idea to its distribution in bookstores.

BAO Publishing is now a reference point in the Italian publishing landscape. Its catalog boasts internationally acclaimed authors such as Zerocalcare, along with many other national and international talents, tackling contemporary themes like climate change, identity struggles, and personal empowerment stories. With an average of 60 new publications per year, BAO has helped bring comics to mainstream bookstores, reaching an increasingly broad and diverse audience.

This event represents a valuable learning opportunity for RUFA students, who will gain direct insights from industry professionals and a deeper understanding of the dynamics that transform a spark of creativity into an editorial success.

Save the date: Monday, December 16, at 5:00 PM.
We look forward to seeing you in Aula Magna for a fascinating journey through words, images, and design.
