Nicole Turi, RUFA graduate in Cinema, has published her first book, “Dimenticavo d’essere al cinema”, published by Vertigo Edizioni. The work, available in bookstores and online, originates from her thesis at RUFA, later expanded and transformed into an essay exploring the timeless allure of cinema.
When we sit in a theater, we are fully aware that what we are about to see is the result of construction and illusion. Yet, cinema manages to offer us authentic emotions thanks to an implicit agreement known as the “suspension of disbelief.” In her book, Nicole Turi analyzes the ways cinema deceives and moves us, inviting the audience to reflect on what happens within us every time we watch a film.
The essay draws from examples of films across various genres and levels of success, taking readers on a journey through editing techniques, dubbing, psychology, and neuroscience. The result is a profound and engaging analysis capable of answering a question as simple as it is complex: why do we love cinema?
An academic and professional journey turned into inspiration
Nicole Turi, born in 1997, began her journey in the world of cinema at the age of 15, winning a national screenwriting competition. After graduating from RUFA, she continued her education at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, gaining hands-on experience on film sets in various roles. Her passion for the relationship between cinema, psychology, and neuroscience became the driving force behind the book, a research project that began in 2020 when the idea took shape as a thesis under the guidance of professor Christian Angeli.
