International Ceramic Design Competition
Applications are now open for the thirteenth edition of the Rometti Prize, an initiative dedicated to discovering and celebrating excellence in the world of ceramic art and design through the vision of a new generation of creatives.
Participation in the 2024 Rometti Prize is reserved for students of Art Academies and Design Institutes worldwide. Each participant must create only one project, with a free theme, which combines a work of art with a design object, according to their personal taste and inclinations. Projects must be submitted to the organizational office by 05/25/2025, and will be evaluated by a jury of experts who will select the best entries (up to six).
Competition Themes
To participate in the competition, entrants are required to design a single object or a series of coherent objects for general interior furnishings, excluding kitchenware. Each participant must therefore create a single artistic ceramic project, with a free theme, according to their personal taste and inclinations. The project should reflect the spirit of Rometti collections (we recommend visiting the website www.rometti.it), interpreting ceramic tradition not conservatively but rather embracing the most advanced international languages, balancing art, craftsmanship, and design, with particular attention to decoration and artistic value.
Further suggestions for the projects:
• Objects should be realizable through wheel-throwing techniques
• Objects should qualify as high-level furnishings
• Any decorations should preferably be hand-applied
• Items may include mixed materials, provided ceramics are the primary component
• If the project includes other materials or electrical components, the participant must provide all necessary technical details for production.
Workshop
The workshop will last one workweek. During this time, the authors of the finalist projects will physically create prototypes of their designs, using the techniques required by the ceramic art, working alongside the Artistic Director of the Manufacture and skilled artisans.
Prizes
Finalists will be entitled to a one-week workshop at the manufacture, where they will bring their projects to life. During the workshop, participants will be provided with free accommodation (room and board) and local transportation, as well as any trips organized by Rometti.
Attendance at the workshop is mandatory for selected students. Refusal to attend will disqualify the student from eligibility for the final prizes.
Among all workshop participants (up to six), the first-place winner will receive a cash prize of €1,000.00, the second-place winner €600.00, and the third-place winner €400.00. All prizes are subject to statutory deductions. The other three finalists will receive a certificate of attendance for the training workshop. All creations made during the workshop may be put into production, subject to prior agreement with the author. The intellectual property of the works will remain with the creators.
