RUFA students shine at Sustainable Fashion Week in Vilnius

The RUFA course in Sustainable Fashion Design continues to stand out in the international landscape of sustainable fashion. Second-year students Giulia Manente, Nadia Maggiani, Elisabetta Baruffo, Veronica Bellandi, Virginia Passaro, and Luca Gaddini had the opportunity to showcase their creations at the prestigious Sustainable Fashion Week Vilnius.

The event, which celebrates sustainable fashion and innovation, saw RUFA’s young designers present unique pieces, each telling a story of creativity and commitment to a more ethical and responsible future. The students personally crafted each garment: from designing and modeling to carefully selecting fabrics, cutting materials, and stitching the pieces together to bring their vision to life. This experience allowed them to showcase their technical and creative skills, resulting in sensational creations that captivated the audience.

Nadia Maggiani presented a collection that challenges social conventions, focusing on mental health and well-being. Her garments are designed to make anyone feel comfortable, regardless of gender, body shape, or age, demonstrating how fashion can become a refuge for personal expression.

Elisabetta Baruffo, with her collection Water Reflections, was inspired by the vital element of water, emphasizing the inseparable connection between body and garment. Using fabric scraps and waste materials, Elisabetta creates pieces that hide and reveal the wearer’s features, in a subtle interplay between nature and clothing.

Veronica Bellandi drew inspiration from rocks and mountain ridges, translating their sharp and irregular lines into sustainable garments. Her creative process strictly adheres to sustainability principles, using recycled paper for patterns and fabrics from renowned Italian textile companies, such as Manteco and Berto.

Virginia Passaro presented a dress inspired by the organic structure of corals, enhancing the female body by integrating it into a cage-like structure. For its creation, she used sustainable materials such as DRAKE yarn, made from recovered scraps and textile deadstock.

Luca Gaddini, with his brand Mezzomarchio, explored nature’s rebellion against human domination in his collection “Planetary Garden.” The fabrics come from deadstock and the sustainable textile company Manteco, demonstrating his commitment to more responsible fashion.

Giulia Manente presents Everything repeats itself, a capsule collection that explores the relationship between humans and nature through Fractals, geometric shapes that repeat infinitely on smaller scales. Both designs are made with sustainable materials provided by the two Italian companies Berto and Manteco, complemented by sustainable technologies and processes.

RUFA’s participation in Sustainable Fashion Week was made possible thanks to the initiative of the coordinator of the three-year course in Sustainable Fashion Design, Guenda Cermel, whose dedication continues to guide students toward prestigious international achievements. RUFA thus confirms itself as one of the most avant-garde academic institutions in the training of conscious and committed designers, capable of combining creativity with responsibility towards the environment and society.
