Special guest in the Fashion Design class: Mattia Trovato, Head of Marketing Communications of Manteco, a leading Italian textile company for sustainability and high-quality fabrics since 1943, came to visit us at the academy.
Sustainable Fashion Design students had the opportunity to make a full immersion in the Manteco world, a company specialising in sustainable luxury fabrics and knitwear made from animal and vegetable fibres, which has just won the Climate Action Award at the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards 2023. Manteco’s flagship: the zero-waste system, sustainable design and traceable circular economy projects.
It is also the first textile company to apply a scientifically based LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) study to its luxury recycled wools.
Mattia Trovato presented the Fashion students with samples of various types of fabrics, telling them about the manufacturing processes that take place in the company, and the importance given to the theme of circular economy, and the use of recycled wool.
It was an enriching and inspiring meeting, organised and made possible by the coordinator Guenda Cermel and the lecturers of the Sustainable Fashion Design course Valeria Oppenheimer, Andrea Mennella and Paola Ungaro.
The lecture was also an opportunity to talk about future collaborations between the brand and the Academy, including the upcoming Fashion Live Performance ‘The Planetary Garden’, which will see the cooperation of RUFA Fashion and Visual Arts students.
