As part of the 8th Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic (Ravenna, October 14, 2023 – January 14, 2024), the MAR – Museo d’Arte della Città di Ravenna announces the 6th edition of the GAeM – Giovani Artisti e Mosaico, aimed at artists aged 35 and under who want to confront mosaic as a technique, language, aesthetic and metaphor.
The competition aims to promote and support contemporary art practices that relate to mosaic-understood as a technique, language, aesthetic or metaphor-both in its expressions related to historical tradition and in its more experimental and unconventional forms.
There are three sections to which one can apply:
1) Works made with traditional materials and techniques for the Orsoni Prize Venice 1888;
2) Works made with unconventional materials and techniques for the Nicola Cingoli prize.
3) Artistic residencies in which projects related to the city of Ravenna and its relationship with mosaic are developed, in collaboration with “Constellation – Young Creative Connections,” a project conceived and coordinated by the association GA/ER Giovani Artisti Emilia Romagna, thanks to the contribution of the Emilia-Romagna Region.
The competition includes the awarding of prizes, the staging of a group exhibition, the creation of works in collaboration with mosaic production studios in the city, the publication of a catalog, meetings and moments of dialogue between artist and public, and the acquisition of works by the MAR.
