RICCI S.p.A., a leading company in the construction sector, with the support of RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts, intends to launch the call-for-ideas “ARTE IN COSTRUZIONE – Cultura, impresa, territorio” (ART IN CONSTRUCTION – Culture, business, territory) for the creation of an artistic work along the perimeter of a building site, between Via Cardinal De Luca and Via Giovanni Vincenzo Gravina, in the Flaminio district in Rome. The idea, already in vogue in other European capitals, is to “colonize” these spaces, providing “site – specific” solutions that can take on the function of an attractor for the neighborhood, expanding its tourist and cultural capacity. The surface of the work on via Cardinal De Luca measures 8,60 m of base x 2,10 m of height, while the surface of the work on via Giovanni Vincenzo Gravina measures 5,35 m of x 2,10 m of height.
Acknowledgements and Awards:
The students are given maximum creative freedom to create a “site-specific” work that will remain visible for the entire duration of the site (approximately two years). RICCI S.p.A. will pay for all the materials needed to create the work and any safety charges for a total cost of € 1,000.00 (one thousand/00) and will also guarantee a scholarship of € 2,000.00 (two thousand/00) for the student and/or students of the winning proposal.
Conditions of participation and selection:
The realisation of the works is to be intended as “turnkey”: from conception, to production, to installation.
The students will have to foresee the use of durable materials and techniques in consideration of the temporal duration of the project. The development of the design ideas of the students who participate in the selection, individually or in groups, will be endorsed and monitored by the teachers, so as to generate significant, innovative and original projects, aligned with the concept and the requirements of RICCI S.p.A.
The project ideas will be presented in digital form, delivering an artistic sketch made in the form that is deemed most appropriate no later than March 28, 2022, in the maximum size A3 in pdf.
The selection of the winning project will take place in two different phases:
– The first selection phase is internal to RUFA and is coordinated by the director arch. Fabio Mongelli and the coordinator of the Visual Arts Department Emiliano Coletta . From this first selection phase, up to a maximum of 5 works will be identified that will be admitted to the final selection.
– The second selection phase will take place in presence at the RUFA Space in via degli Ausoni 7 at 11 am.
The selected candidates will present their proposals to a jury made up of qualified representatives of the RUFA Academy, of the company RICCI S.p.A. and of the Municipality 2 of Rome which sponsored the project.
Each proposal must contain the following elements:
– name of the work;
– coordinating teacher who follows the project;
– conceptual description of 1200 characters;
– name of the author or authors;
– expenditure budget for the construction (materials, transport, installation, additional elements or other);
– actual implementation times.
To upload to the platform, the following procedure must be followed:
– by 28 March, under the supervision of the teachers, students are required to submit the final project, uploading it to the platform, with the elements already highlighted;
– by 29 March the RUFA internal selection commission will meet to define the projects that pass to the final phase;
– Friday 1 April, the jury will meet at RUFA Space to identify the winning project;
– the month of April is dedicated to the creation / installation of the work which must be completed by April 21;
The inauguration date is scheduled for April 21, Rome’s Christmas.
