Everything is ready for the fifth edition of “V_AIR Vimercate Art in Residence”, the annual program of artistic residencies promoted by the Department of Culture of the City of Vimercate in Lombardy, which rewards and supports contemporary artistic production. Until 12th February, artists/students aged between 19 and 35 who work in the visual arts (photography, graphics, performance, painting, sculpture, video) can send their applications to participate in the residencies that will be held from 3rd to 23rd May 2021 to create a new work of art.
Under the artistic curatorship of Maria Paola Zedda, responsible for numerous cultural projects in the field of performing and visual arts including “Cagliari Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2015” and “NAO Performing Festival”, VAIR 2021 proposes to the artists to develop the theme “catastrophe”: figure of time, of the precariousness of living on a planet infected, devastated by global warming, consecrated to profit, made fragile by human action.
The catastrophe today is a condition in which we are immersed, with which we are called to cohabit and to experiment with new practices of adaptation and constant reconstruction of existence.
It is possible to participate, respecting the categories indicated in the announcement, without limitation of expressive languages and artistic techniques. The proposals submitted will be judged by a special committee that will evaluate the originality and quality of the project, consistency with the theme of the call, artistic curriculum of the author.
Up to 6 artists will be selected and will be assigned a studio at the museum for three weeks in which to create their works, accommodation and a production prize of € 1,800 (including 20% tax). At the end of the residency, each artist will donate his/her work to the museum, which will become part of the collections. During the residency period, the artists’ studios will be open to the public at scheduled times, becoming places to meet and listen to the inhabitants, curators and art critics.
Everything will end with the inauguration of a collective exhibition in which the works will be exhibited until 27th June 2021.
