Now in its sixth edition, the International Prize “Generazione Contemporanea”, promoted by the Luiss Creative Business Center, aims to promote contemporary Italian and foreign art, support artists under 35 and expand the permanent art collection of the Luiss Business School.
The competition requires that candidate works develop a specific concept, which will also be the subject of the final exhibition of the eleventh edition of the Luiss Master of Art, scheduled for December.
The theme chosen for this year is “Reactions”. The competition involves the awarding of a money prize worth 4,000 euros to the first prize winner as a purchase of the chosen work. The top three finalists will be included not only in the exhibition but also in the catalogue.
Candidates may submit only one work, published or unpublished, which clearly demonstrates adherence to the theme. The competition is open to all forms of visual expression (painting, sculpture, installation, photography, graphics and video, with no limit to the techniques used).
The competition is open exclusively to artists under 35. The deadline for submitting entries is 11 October 2021 by 12 noon. Participation is free of charge. For more information visit the webpage dedicated to the prize.
The theme of the International Prize Generazione contemporanea
The term reaction refers to acting in response to another action and/or in the opposite direction to it. This “contrary” sense has affinities with the concept of irony, understood in terms of simulation and dissimulation.
Irony, in literature, is a rhetorical procedure in which words take on a meaning contrary to that which is actually intended. This kind of attitude offers, through art, one of the possible antidotes against an age that requires not only the individual, but the whole community to accept the sense of abandonment of their liberties and their ideals.
